Primary Longman Elect 6B Chapter 5 Text Type Back covers

Back covers Front and back book covers attract readers in different ways.

Front covers have attractive pictures, a title, and details such as the author and illustrator or photographer.

Back covers try to attract readers with words Back covers try to attract readers with words. This writing is called a blurb.

You can find a blurb on the back cover of DVDs too.

The blurb is a short description of the story.

It doesn’t tell you the ending It doesn’t tell you the ending! It usually finishes with a sentence encouraging you to read the book.

You can also find comments from other people on the back cover.

After people have read the book they may write a review After people have read the book they may write a review. The publisher takes the best comments from the reviews and includes them here.

The comment. The person or magazine reviewing the book.

Notice the positive language in the comments.

You may sometimes see comments on the front cover of books and DVDs too.
