Morning Worship Thursday 22nd November 2018 St Cecilia Bishop Justus Church of England School

Let the light of Christ shine in our lives Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Receive Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, ‘For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. From Paul’s Letter to the Romans, chapter 8, verses 35 to 39

Engage Cecilia was one of the most revered martyrs of the Roman Church, but the only thing we know for certain is that at some point in the second or third century, a woman called Cecilia allowed the Church to meet in her house in Trastevere in the city of Rome and that subsequently the church erected on that site bore her name. She was remembered as a brave woman who risked giving hospitality to the Christian Church when to do so was to court censure and possibly death. She is honoured as the patron saint of musicians.

Engage Some discussion ideas … What type of music do you like? How does music help people? In what situations? Can music be a cause for division amongst people? Why? Activity suggestion … Create the first verse of a protest song. Video suggestion … The unexpected joy of music ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTHXIzHPyqE

Respond Amen God, Your servant Cecilia risked her life to serve you, Help us to be able to stand up for our beliefs and to be strong-willed. Amen

Go out into the world with the light of Christ Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ
