When is it okay to sharpen pencils in Mrs. Ryan’s class? Walk-in Take out notebook, folder, and pencil box. Put backpack away. Turn to the BACK of your notebook. Write the title “Walk In” and today’s date. Copy the question and answer in sentences: When is it okay to sharpen pencils in Mrs. Ryan’s class?

BRAIN BOP… Describe what you think of when you hear the word “scientist”! Be specific about age, appearance, gender, clothing, etc.!

How many people pictured someone like this? White male, older. Wearing a lab coat, glasses, tie. Somewhat crazy looking!

This is not an accurate image! Today’s scientists and engineers come from every race, culture, ethnic group, gender, and age! We will explore the different titles and branches of science they are from by doing a coded puzzle!

Super scientists

Zoology – study animals Branches of Science Biology – study of living things Botany – study plants Zoology – study animals Chemistry – study of what substances things are made of, and how they can interact.

Includes movement, heat, light, sound, waves, electricity, and more. Physics – study of non-living things and matter and energy. Includes movement, heat, light, sound, waves, electricity, and more. Geology – study of the earth’s structure and its properties and processes.

Astronomy – study of space, planets, stars and other celestial objects.

Super Scientists Coded Puzzle! We will learn about different scientists by using a code and clues about them to figure out the branch of science.

Individual work guidelines… Voice level – 0 Background music to remind us all to keep the quiet working atmosphere. Have your NOTEBOOK and FOLDER out so Mrs. Ryan can check your labeling while you work.

Super Scientists We learned about all different types of scientists in our Super Scientist sheet. Do any of those sound like you?

Which one are you? Choose a scientist from the worksheet whom you can envision yourself as. Draw yourself as that scientist. Include a setting and any materials, clothes, or other things that you would have around you as that scientist.
