Meditation John 20:19-23 Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side.  The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.”  Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?”

Opening Prayer O Merciful Creator, You sent the Risen Jesus to offer a worried and distracted people your peace that passes all understanding. We are often hard headed. Our hearts are slow to embrace your love and sacrifice, and even slower to receive or offer forgiveness. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to dwell in us! For we know, through your Holy Spirit, forgiveness occurs, belief increases, and joy overflows our being. May it be so now, and forever. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth; The Apostle’s Creed (Hymnal # 881) I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;

the third day, He rose from the dead; he ascended to Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

1 John 1:4-2:2 NRSV 4 We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7 but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin us.

1 John 1:4-2:2 NRSV 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 1:4-2:2 NRSV 2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2 and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
