Journal Question What does the word “Kristallnacht” mean? The Night of Broken Glass

Kristallnacht Facts: 1,000 Jewish Synagogues were burned. 7,000 Jewish businesses were destroyed. 100 Jewish people killed 30,000 Jewish men arrested and taken to concentration camps. Jews blamed for and made to pay for the damages. How did the Germans profit or make money from this destruction? German looters stole money and valuables People had to shop at German businesses since Jewish businesses were closed. Jewish concentration camp prisoners were forced to do labor.

Anne Frank What are 2 ways Anne Frank’s family tried to escape the Nazis? They moved from Germany to Amsterdam. They hid for two years. Why couldn’t Jewish people leave? They could not take their money with them. They were forbidden to travel. They couldn’t get far enough away from the Germans. They couldn’t find countries that would take them.

Anne Frank Identify the different ways the Franks experienced persecution by the Nazis: Anne and her sister had to leave public school. They had to wear a Jewish star. They couldn’t travel. They had to hide to avoid being arrested. Mr. Frank was forced to leave his business.
