Test 2-Economics, Science and Technology

Lesson 1- Era-pg. 4 A period of time noted for its events, people, or other characteristics Example:  The Dust Bowl Era or the Roaring 20s is a decade from 1920-1930.

Relative Chronology-pg. 6 The order of events in relation to other events Example:  The U.S. entered WWII after the attack at Pearl Harbor

Absolute Chronology-pg. 6 The order of events by date Example:  The Pearl Harbor attack was December 7, 1941

Primary Source (Page 9) Define-is an original record or object created at the time of an event. Examples-autobiographies, interviews, newspapers, photographs, journals, diaries, and political documents (treaties, personal letters, speeches and audio recordings.

Secondary Source (Page 10) Define-is a document created after the event about which it reports, by people who were not present at the time. Examples-encyclopedias, histories, biographies, interviews, reports, and other books and reports based on research.

Point of View (Page 11) Define- the position of the narrator in relation to the story, as indicated by the narrator’s outlook from which the events are depicted and by the attitude toward the characters. Bias-pg. 11 A preference that prevents fair judgement

Lesson 3- Economic System of the U.S.-pg. 30 Capitalism.  The U.S. economy is driven by people investing in capital and using their capital for profit, or financial gain.  

Free Enterprise (Page 30) Define-an economic system in which people and businesses are mostly free to make their own choices in producing and exchanging goods and services, with limited government interference.  

Supply and Demand-pg. 30 Free enterprise system is based on the law of supply and demand.  This is the relationship between the supply of a product and its price.  Producers decide the prices of their goods and services based on how many people want, or demand, them.

Lesson 4- Science-p. 35 The study of living and nonliving things Technology and Innovations-pg. 36 Technology is the way people use tools and machines to experience or change the world around them.

Lesson 3- Texas and Education-pg. 688-689 By 2009 about 80% of the workforce had high school educations  About a quarter (25%) of all Texas workers had a college education.

Energy-pg. 689-690 The energy sector which includes all of the industries related to the production and sale of energy, had a major influence on the Texas economy.

Alternative Energy Sources or Renewable Energy Sources (Pages 693-694) ● Why-cause less pollution Environmentalists are people who are concerned about the environment in which we live in and surrounding areas.  Alternative energy sources are being promoted to help save the environment for future generations. ● Types-Wind, solar and biofuels Wind 57%, Biomass 20%and Ethanol 20% are the major renewable energy sources.  Solar is the least consumed alternative energy source.

NAFTA-pg. 691-692 North American Free Trade Agreement was signed in 1992.  In the 1980’s the American leaders were encouraged by the successes The European Union (EU) by removing all trade barriers between the European countries.  The Political leaders of Canada, United States and Mexico believed that a free trade agreement would benefit North America as it did in Europe.
