Determining Service Utilization

What is service utilization? Service utilization is the extent to which people are using services available in the community or at your organization. Done by surveying citizens and/or service providers.

Why determine service utilization? To decide which services to continue, which to alter, and which to discontinue. To identify needs & gaps. To keep staff & funders informed. To follow changes or trends. To network with other community group.

How to determine service utilization: Decide what services to survey. Compile a basic inventory of services. Decide what info to gather about these services. Gather data on how much the services are being used. Analyze your results. Write a report of results.
