Figure 1 Flow of patients through the study. Patients who violated study entry criteria were those for whom the presence of an adenoma on colonoscopy at baseline could not be confirmed. Patients who withdrew consent for study participation included those who withdrew from the study for medical or nonmedical reasons, those who failed to complete a postrandomization colonoscopy for nonmedical reasons, or those who did not adhere to the protocol for other reasons. Adherence to the use of study medication was calculated as the duration of use in days, divided by 1095. Percentages do not always total 100 because of rounding.
