Administrative Services in Support of Student Learning & Success Dr. Ruby Hayden Vice President of Student Success

Introductions Name Current position College Question: What is one thing you’ve done or wish you could do in your current position to support students?

Supporting Enrollment State FTE allocation/Localized targets If a college’s 3-year average of enrollment is below state target, it will annually be “re-based” to that lower average Some exceptions if all are at or below target (Bates Technical College) High demand programs receive higher per FTE funding – but many are expensive to offer Participate in Strategic Enrollment Management efforts Support funding for innovative recruitment/retention efforts, high demand programs

Accreditation Compliance of policies/procedures Student learning assessment College-wide planning Adequate support services Student Services, Library, IT, Facilities Findings force funding decisions Learn where other areas are struggling Use accreditation priorities as funding consideration

Student Achievement Initiative Performance funding model for Washington CTCs Points/funding for key academic momentum points Data shows momentum point gain leads to degree/certificate Currently 5% of state’s budget, more to come Make connections for the college between points, money, strategies Support funding for targeted efforts aimed at points I-BEST Degree completion

Grants Pros: Cons: Federal and state grants bring in new dollars Diversified funding in difficult financial times Cons: Spending constraints Reporting requirements Start small – sub-awardee Get trained on how to manage them The more trained, the larger the grants Use indirect dollars to fund staff support
