Remember learning the ladder method for finding the least common denominator yesterday?

Today, I will show you how to use the same ladder method to simplify fractions!

Simplifying Fractions using the Ladder Method Find the GCF of the numerator and denominator. Write the numerator then denominator in the ladder and find a factor that divides into each number. Keep dividing until they have no common factors. 2 16 28 2 8 14 4 7 Find the product of the numbers you divided by on the left of the ladder. 2 • 2 = 4 The GCF of 16 and 28 is 4, so you can divide the numerator and denominator by 4 to get to simplest form. You can look at the two numbers on the bottom of the ladder. The one on the left is the simplified numerator. The one on the right is the simplified denominator. OR
