Choosing a Subject & Poetic Devices You need to be passionate about it! What poetic devices are you going to use? Repetition & rhyme are key!

Attitude is Essential

Performance Eye contact: look out at the audience (not the floor) Projection: speak loud & clear so you can be heard Enunciation: helps the audience hear you Facial expressions: help to animate, bring life to your poem Gestures: use hand motions & gestures to enhance your presentaiton

Memorization Memorizing helps you connect to the poem & focus on the performance
