UCAS Progress is the application you need to complete to apply for any 6th form, college or apprenticeship. Computer Room They are to sit in register order around the room so they are able to work on the computers. They need to log on as normal.

Type in … https://www.ucasprogress.com/search Type in Sheffield (Then click Sheffield, South Yorkshire UK) Click on ‘This area only’ (unless you are considering moving away) If you definitely know where you want to study type it in here (e.g. Tapton School or Sheffield College) if not leave it empty If you definitely know what you would like to study type it in here, if not leave it empty. Animation. Talk students through the process on the board, do not allow them to start completing this process yet. Click Search

Your search will appear and give you lots of options to chose from! You need to now work your way through and figure out which one is the right course for you. Once you have chosen your subject area, click on it and you will get a page like this Read through the information (entry requirements, course content etc) If you would like to change your search, type the information here. ANIMATION Read through the slide for the students Allow students to start working through UCAS and completing their research. There is more paper available if they wish to write down more notes. This should take a big chunk out of the lesson allowing them to research. This should take an hour to an hour and half.

Next Steps Type in www.ucasprogress.co.uk Click on Further Education and click on explore jobs… here you can click on different job families, select a subject or select a skill. This will help with your research - If the students have finished searching courses they are to look through the link above and look through further education for the next steps of their lives after year 11 and job and career.

Next steps… Research Red Brick Universities and find out what their requirements are to complete a course there. Research into your future job, what actual requirements do they require about you as a person, work experience or qualifications. Start finding out specifics about your future job career i.e. money, working hours, expectations etc. Once you have completed your search you should start to google future prospects and gather more knowledge and understanding on your future so you can make a definite decision This is an extension task for students if they wish to add more into their research. Please encourage them to add the information on to their a4 pieces of paper to take home with them.

BOOKLET BOOKLETS - They have a page to complete in their booklets to help them.

Something to think about… EXIT CARD Go and speak to your teachers to find out what course they would advice you to do. What can you do over the summer holidays to support your application and personal statement? Get the students to state one thing as they leave. Then to consider something for the following lesson.
