Traver Road Primary School Art Studio News December 2018 Message From The Teacher First Day of Art Students created a monochromatic (one-color) self-portrait. Each class was given a color to use and by the end of the week, we created a rainbow of portraits. The portraits are on display in the hallway by the main office. I also read the book What If by Samantha Berger to all the students at Traver. This beautiful story celebrates the power of imagination and the importance of self-expression. I encourage my students to always ask themselves “What if...?” as they explore and experiment in the art studio. With the new school year well under way, we have had a busy and productive first trimester! It is a privilege and joy working with your children and watching them grow as artists every class. Each child brings their own unique perspectives, experiences and passions to the art studio which further enriches our program. Thank you for your continued support of the arts! Sincerely, Mrs. Boland Share Time Each class, students have the opportunity to share their artwork. They describe their art and the techniques/media they used to create it. The class asks questions or comments about the artwork. This is a wonderful time to learn more about each student and celebrate their accomplishments! Kindergarten News Kindergarten is currently exploring the elements of art. They have learned about line, shape and color and created a work of art for each element. We have read Lines That Wiggle by Candace Whitman, Mouse Shapes and Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. Kindergarten used a variety of mediums while exploring each of these elements. They crated a wax-resist watercolor painting, a mixed-media collage, an oil pastel color wheel and a painting using tempera paints. In the second trimester, kindergarten will learn about patterns, texture and form. They will also learn about the artists Faith Ringgold and Pablo Picasso.
