Science Fair 2016/2017 Teacher’s Guide Franklin Academy BB Science Fair 2016/2017 Teacher’s Guide

Step 1 Read teacher’s packet before giving out students packets. (Copied on green paper – Student’s packet on white paper) Be aware of all due dates. Have students bring in 3 topics and approve one of them based on ability to complete, and repetition of project (don’t want too many of the same thing) Approved projects must be by October 27, 2016 Final changes (if any) due: October 31, 2016

Step 2 Review each Scientific Method steps with the students. Discuss due dates and what needs to be handed in on those due dates. Students will begin gathering materials and examining the procedure they need to follow to conduct their experiments. Hypothesis Due: Nov. 7, 2016 Materials & Procedures Due: Nov. 14, 2016 Conduct experiment over Thanksgiving Break. (repeat it 3 times)

Step 3 Please explain to the students and parents that they are NOT to purchase a tri-project board – a paper board will be provided to all students. The paper project board will have one pre-folded so you can show students how to correctly fold their boards and correctly layout their boards. Conclusion Due: Dec. 16, 2016 Create display board-paper over Winter Break

Step 4 Please Make Sure!!! The project can fold flat – NO 3-D items on the board The board must be on the provided paper board No pictures of the student(s) displayed on the board – pictures can be used but must only show the experiment The name of the student must be on the back with the grade level and teacher’s name – NOT on the front of the board

Step 5 As due dates arrive you can give a Science grade for each portion of the project as they become due. Check minus = 65% Check = 80% Check plus = 100% Guide students who may need additional support. Present projects in class: Feb. 21 to March 3, 2017 Teachers pick top 2 projects for each category regular students, ESE students, and ESOL students Teachers hand in top projects March 3, 2017 to Room 142
