2017 Science Fair Prosper isd

Why Science Fair? To focus attention on science experiences in school To stimulate greater interest in science by all students To recognize and commend youthful scientific investigation above and beyond ro0utine class work To offer an opportunity for display of scientific talent through exhibition and demonstration To use practice scientific processes that students have been learning since Kinder. Why Science Fair?

Specific grade-level details Kindergarten and 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th May work alone or with a partner Must use a trifold board Kinder and 1st will get to participate in group projects with their class, no exceptions! May NOT work with a partner. May use technology or trifold board

Group project for K and 1 What does this look like? Option 1: each class does their own project. Option 2: all classes for Kinder will work toward a common project and all 1st will work toward a common project. 1. Where will they display? Usually in the hallway, and left up through Open House 2. Will students get to view the display? It’s a good idea to let them walk around and see the work of their grade level, make sure all judging is complete before allowing students view projects 3. No awards for any of the class projects! All students will be given their own participation ribbon! 4. Trifold boards for each class may be obtained in the office. 5. Parents may try and convince you to let their child do an individual project…there are no exceptions! 6. Both grade-levels have a week built into their course map for science fair

Important Dates (add to Newsletters) January 13– Send out brochures to all students 2-5 January 27– Request for information packet due February 10– Project registration form due February 28– projects due March 1– Presentations of projects and judging March 2– Winners announced, ready for Open House March 3– Take home projects, only non-winners

Judges We have 4 grade levels. You will need a min. of 12 judges. We must have 3 judges that judge all of a grade level If you have a parent you want to specifically ask great! But also send home flier first week back! We need commitments soon!

Awards: Steam expo Campus awards All winners will display here. 2nd grade: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners 3rd grade: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners 4th grade: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners 5th grade: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners all students will get a participation ribbon. Trophies given to Best in Show All winners will display here. You must not let winners take home their projects

We must start now! So the first week back in January…. Send home Brochure (tri-folds) - Maybe get a parent to fold them for you Send home Judges forms When you get flier interest slip back give Packet They will not have a spot at the Science Fair if they do not bring the entry page out of their packet back!!!!!! Communication: Start getting the word out when we return from Christmas, this could be something once a week on the announcements saying that science fair is coming, it could be a blurb during library time, it could be a blurb before science time, principal’s letter, etc This slideshow is in G Drive > Windsong >Campus>Science Fair I will put all the fliers and packets in there for you to print and then send out a reminder email when we get back!
