Kums Dune-covered deserts found in southern- central Asia (such as Iran or Turkmenistan)
Alluvial Soil A rich soil made up of sand and mud deposited by moving water (such as in the Nile River.)
Wadis These are streambeds found in this region’s deserts that remain dry until a heavy rain; they are associated with flash floods.
Phosphate A chemical used in fertilizers; the nation of Morocco is one of the world’s leading producers.
Oasis A place in the desert where underground water surfaces; villages, towns, and cities developed around many Saharan oases.
