Cell Structure & Cell Scientist Review (not comprehensive) On your markerboard, write the best answer for each question. Flip your markerboard face down when you are ready with your answer.

Nucleus The control center of the cell, where DNA is found.

Hooke The scientist who named cells.

Chloroplast The organelle where photosynthesis takes place allowing plants to make their own food.

Mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell. Where glucose is converted into ATP energy.

Brown The scientist who discovered the nucleus of a cell.

Eukaryote The type of cell that does have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles.

Schwann The scientist who said that all animals are made of cells.

Golgi Organelle that packages and distributes proteins around the cell.

Rough ER Has ribosomes attached and functions in transportation of molecules around the cell.

Leewuenhoek The scientist who created the first real microscope to see living cells.

Cytoplasm Jelly-like fluid throughout the cell.

Smooth ER Has no ribosomes attached and functions in lipid synthesis and breaks down toxins.

Ribosomes Structure where proteins are made.

Schleiden The scientist who said that all plants are made of cells.

Nucleolus Structure where ribosomes are made.

Cell Membrane Phosopholipid bilayer that regulates what enters and leaves the cell.

Virchow The scientist who said all cells come from other cells.

List the 3 organelles found in plant cells but NOT in animal cells Chloroplast Large central vacuole Cell wall
