Helping your child through A level exams

Work out a revision timetable for each subject Students have had exam buster sessions where they were trained to adapt different revision techniques. Work out the time left before exams and create a timetable with your child.

Break revision time into small chunks Hour-long sessions with short breaks at the end of each session often work well for students Be specific about what is the purpose of each revision session Know the distractions for your son/daughter and work out a way to keep them away

Make sure your child has all the essential books and materials Students should create a checklist of all the topics and areas in each subject and audit their resources for each topic If there is a concern please encourage your son/daughter to speak to the teacher and sort out the problem Try to have chats about each subject area as much as possible so that you are aware of any problems

Eat, sleep and drink well Eating, drinking and sleeping well will enable your child to use their revision time much more effectively. The key is not the length of time spent working, but the quality. Concentrated caffeine drinks should be avoided at all cost. Keep the snacks healthy.

Manage Stress Plan ahead to avoid stress Support your child to work smart and plan effectively. There should be some time on the timetable to relax with the family Don’t set unrealistic expectations

Find a comfortable and quiet place to work Revision sessions at home will only be successful if your son/daughter is able to carry on comfortably Please provide them quiet place to carry on their work and support them as much as possible

Encourage your child to be active in their revision Stick to the planned timetable and be consistent. A long break between two revision sessions can lead to be unproductive Ensure they have access to Google classroom or internet but keep talking to them about getting rid of the distractions such as social media

Buy new stationery just for revision It may sound strange but a new set of pens, highlighters and other stationary items can make revision really interesting for students.

Talk to the school Please do not hesitate to contact school in case you have any concern It is important that we work as a team to support our students
