How to deal with EXAM FEVER

WORRY TENSION ANXIETY FEAR HEADACHE PRESSURE STRESS

ROLE AS PARENTS

PARENTAL CONCERNS My child is intelligent but not willing to studies No desire – have to push Not interested in studies at all If I am around, then the child studies, if not then does not study Forgets during exams

KNOW YOUR CHILD’S ENTIRE EXAMINATION TIMETABLE Pin the timetable on your kitchen notice board Note the time and date fir each paper

HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH REVISION Work out a revision timetable for each subject. Break revision time into small chunks. Make sure your child has all essential books and materials. Buy new stationary, highlighters and pen to make revision more interesting.

PROVIDING ALL ROUND SUPPORT Make home life as calm and pleasant as possible Try to be at home and available as much as possible Give time each day to sit and chat with your child Make sure the child joins in family meals even if there is a very important exam next day Do not nag and make too many demands on your child

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Make sure your child takes at least half an hour of walk every day Exercise good to refresh the mind

LISTEN TO THEIR EACH DAY’S STORY – AND MOVE ON. With a calm mind listen to how their paper went What’s done is done Help them to focus on their next examination

MAKE A CHECKLIST OF DAILY REQUIREMENT, BASED ON EACH DAY’S PAPER A final check each morning for ruler, pen, pencil, erasers etc

HELP THEM TO MAINTAIN A BALANCED DAILY ROUTINE Proper balance between study and rest. Should rest for sometime before starting to study for the next exam. Should even have a little time to relax

A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP ALWAYS IMPROVES EXAMINATION PERFORMANCE

YOU ARE, WHAT YOU EAT. Incorporate a balanced diet into your child’s menu. Avoid all kinds of junk food. Make sure they drink a lot of fluids. Fruits and salads, are always a yes yes..

DON’T HYPE THE IMPORTANCE OF ANY ONE SUBJECT. DON’T OVERLY STRESS OUT CHILDREN FOR SUBJECTS LIKE MATH AND SCIENCE. UNDERSTAND THEIR WEAK POINTS IN EACH SUBJECT, AND HELP THEM ACCORDINGLY. DON’T GET THEM NERVOUS BEFORE ANY EXAMINATION.

LET YOUR CHILD MIX WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS Don’t isolate your child Socializing to a bit, can help relieve stress

SHATTER THESE MYTHS Marks in exams = Intelligence or brilliance Success in exam = Success in life Good marks = Good job Failure in exam = Failure in life = End of life

THANK YOU
