Objective By the end of the lesson, SWBAT demonstrate their understanding of the New Deal and its affect on Americans. By the end of the lesson, SWBAT create their own New Deal program similar to the WPA, TVA, CCC.

The Great Depression

The New Deal What was the purpose of the New Deal?

The New Deal The main goal of the New Deal was to create JOBS! It was all about getting people employment! The different programs helped build and repair roads, remodel old buildings, build dams, and help make the land better in the Dust Bowl.

Specific Programs What was the purpose of the W.P.A.? What was the purpose of the T.V.A.? What was the purpose of the C.C.C.?

It’s Your Turn! It is 1933, and you have been chosen by President Roosevelt to create a New Deal program/group. You need to come up with a group that has a clear goal, and one that will help a lot of people suffering from the Great Depression. Think about where there is the greatest need for help during the Great Depression.

Things to Think About You need to think about where your project will be doing its work. You need to think about how many people your program is going to employ. You need to think about how you are going to persuade people to come work for your group. You need to think about what kind of work your program will be doing, and why it is needed!

The President is counting on you! You need to sell yourself to President Roosevelt and the American people! Be creative!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt President Roosevelt is counting on you!

Letter Example Dear President Roosevelt, I’m am writing to you today because I want to help the people that are suffering from the Great Depression. I believe that I have a fantastic idea for a New Deal program. The name of the program that I would like to start is called the Urban Workers Corps (UWC). The goal of the UWC is to help cities clean up their streets....
