Purposes of the Media

TV News Newspapers News on Social Media e.g. BBC, Channel 4, Sky News etc… e.g. The Times, The Guardian, The Daily Mail… e.g. Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Upworthy…

To inform readers/viewers To challenge the way things are To shock readers/viewers To influence readers/viewers (e.g. around political elections) To give their own opinion To entertain readers/viewers To investigate & uncover information (e.g. ‘President’s Club’ harassment) To question things that are happening

To shock readers/viewers SCHOOL ‘THUGS’ RIOT OVER SCHOOL LUNCH Out-of-control students appear to have been causing riots in a local school because they didn’t like their school lunches. Some of the teachers took these pictures and have said they were acting like wild animals! Share to show your support for our hard- working teachers! To shock readers/viewers

To entertain readers/viewers THE GREAT BRITISH BULLDOG A group of lovely school children have been snapped playing a friendly game of British Bulldog this week, reminding many of us of happy school days playing this classic British game. They said they loved school and loved playing games with their friends. To entertain readers/viewers

To question things that are happening CHAOS OR COMRADESHIP? Should children be encouraged to play games like the well known ‘British Bulldog,’ some concerned teachers and parents are wondering. While the game is said by some to encourage team work and to be good for fitness, others are worried that it encourages bullying of children who are slower at running, and can easily become out of hand. Photos shared by a school this week have sparked a debate, and we want to get to the bottom of it. Comment below to let us know your thoughts. To question things that are happening

Over to you… You will each be assigned a ‘purpose’ and will write your own article to fit that purpose.
