Transitions within Paragraphs Hillgrove High School consistently proves to be the most desired school to attend in Cobb County. For example, in 2013 99% of Hillgrove students passed the graduation writing test. Because of the dedication of both students and teachers, the school has experienced a great deal of success in writing. Students practice these skills in each of their English courses, and teachers are diligent in the feedback they give students to help them improve their abilities. In addition to academic success, Hillgrove students also excel in athletics. The Hillgrove Hawk football team has had a winning season for the last seven years….

Create your own transitions: Write a transition sentence that connects the 2 pieces of evidence. 1. Topic: Vacation spots In interviews with families, 60% of people enjoy spending time at the beach for their family vacation. The mountains provide a relaxing experience for those looking to get away from everyday stressors. 2. Topic: Homecoming events The Homecoming Pep Rally introduces the athletes of the fall sports teams and includes the spirit stick competition. The Homecoming football game is attended by 75% of the student body. 3. Topic: Much Ado About Nothing Don Pedro offers to help Claudio woo Hero. Don Pedro supports Claudio when he is told that Hero is cheating on him.

Writing Reminders Claims should have REASONS Vary the type of Lead-in Not all lead-ins should be a somebody says Interpretation should be 3 sentences Give a context for the evidence (what is going on in the play?) Give a specific example or detail to help support your claim Make a connection back to the claim (explain why your character matches the alignment) Include transitions between pieces of evidence AND between paragraphs Follow CEIEI format
