Feng Yang Drum All come from Feng-Yang, a district in the Anhwei Province in the east Central region of China. This song is one of a group known as “Flower Drum Songs.” These songs have originated as work songs sung by the Feng Yang Farmers in the Rice Fields.

Feng Yang Drum A series of Disasters—droughts, floods, earthquakes, and locusts—drove many of the farmers from their homes. Some became vagabonds who wandered across China, singing their songs and begging in the streets. Traditionally the Flower Drum Songs are sung by a man and a girl impersonating the refugees from Feng-yang. And as the song states, the man plays a gong, the girl plays a flower drum
