English Language Proficiency Standards The state of Missouri belongs to the WIDA consortium – a group of 36 states that share common standards and assessments. The WIDA Consortium’s English Language Proficiency standards for ELLs include: Social and Instructional Language The Language of Language Arts The Language of Mathematics The Language of Science The Language of Social Studies Insert a map of your country.
Students are assessed every year with a test called ACCESS Students are assessed every year with a test called ACCESS. This tests the student’s listening comprehension, speaking ability, reading, and writing skills. The parents receive a report like the one below that shows the progress the student has made. Some factors that will determine how quickly a student learns another language are: *Similarity of L1 to L2 *Proficiency and/or literacy in L1 Language *Prior schooling *Motivation *PARENTAL EXPECTATIONS *Parental Support Insert a picture illustrating a season in your country. *Ability *Other affective factors, such as confidence, personality, peer support or ridicule, etc.
What you can do at home to help your child: *Speak with your child. Have discussions. *Share Experiences. *Read to them and with them. Talk about the things you read. *Use books with CD’s *Share your expectations with your child and show your support. Insert a picture of an animal and or plant found in your country.
