Party Planner Project Y8 - ICT ITC Department

What the project is about You are going to calculate how much would cost your next birthday party. You will make a list of the food and drinks, decorations items and the best location you can find. You will also have to consider problems that may increase the final price, so you will have to adjust to your budget. ITC Department

Making the food and drink list Make a list of the names and prices of the food and drink items that you will need for your party. They will have to be enough to feed all of your guests. You will use the prices catalogue provided. You should choose to buy on the cheapest supermarket of the list. Add formulae to calculate the total cost for drinks and the food. ITC Department

Challenge 1 You may want to find the list of food and drink and the best prices on supermarkets websites instead of using the prices catalogue. You will consider specific requirements for your guests in your list: e.g. vegetarian option (V) ITC Department

Task 1 - Food and Drinks Cost tables Transfer the data about food and drink to the tables in the ´Party Planning - Student Task´ Tab Food and Drink Then add the formulae that will calculate the total for Food and for Drinks. Format the spreadsheet by adding suitable colours and decorative titles that help reading. ITC Department

Task 2 – Decoration, Entertainment and Venue Cost tables Select the Tab ´Decor&Enter&Venue´ of the Party Planning –Students Task Spreadsheet. Find on the Prices catalogue the most suitable items for Decoration, Entertainment and the venue for your birthday party. Transfer them to the suitable tables on the Excel file. Then add the formulae that will calculate the total for each of the categories. Format the spreadsheet by following the style of the previous spreadsheet. ITC Department

Challenge 2 You may want to find the list and prices of decoration items and venue on suitable websites instead of using the prices catalogue. Have you thought about giving a theme to your party? E.g. Afrikan, Zombie... This would go with the logo of your party and the spreadsheets decorations. ITC Department

Task 3 – How much money do you have? You ned to calculate how much money you have for your party. If there are no extra donations from your family, your final budget is 250€. Select the Tab ´Budget´ of the Party Planning –Students Task Spreadsheet. Complete the Total Income table with the right items. Format the spreadsheet by following the style of the previous spreadsheet. ITC Department

Challenge 3 You may want to raise some extra money selling some of your stuff or with a raffle. Add these extra money to the right table, and specify that you have added extra fund for the event on a textbox on the spreadsheet. ITC Department

Task 4 - Profit or Loss? You are going to calculate whether you have enough money for your party. Select the Tab ´Profit&Loss´ of the Party Planning –Students Task Spreadsheet. Complete the table with the right items. Format the spreadsheet by following the style of the previous spreadsheet. Create a graph showing the difference between the income and the expenditure. ITC Department

Task 5 -What if…? You are going to set up a function that will warn you if you are going overbudget. This function is called ´IF Statement´. You should prepare for possible problems with the budget. It looks that he price of the venue per hour has now doubled up. The price of the decorations has now gone up a 30%. Do you have enough money to face this? ITC Department

Party Planner Project Success Criteria Grade 6 BSB Grade 7-8 BSB You have added some simple suitable calculations (*, -, /, *) You can use Excel to create a suitable spreadsheet with clear columns and rows with text, numbers and Data Types. You are able to format tables adding borders, colours and shading. You can use ICT to present information in different forms (graphs, tables) taking into consideration the layout, colours and fonts. You can use formulas such as SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN, COUNT to explore patterns and make predictions about expected outcomes. You can use independently more complex formulas and functions correctly. (e.g. auto sum and what if statements). You can assess and reflect critically your own work and apply necessary changes. You can use hyperlinks appropriately to improve the accessibility of the spreadsheet. You can test formulas and functions for errors and independently make the relevant changes. ITC Department
