Conclusions Our response – must be in accord with revelation Is to who God is in his saving acts Whole person to the whole of God – with the whole people of God Will involve relationship to God and one another Sacrifices in NT – ourselves, our praise, our generosity When we gather – corporate worship – so we may go on worshipping – built up, instructed, encouraged
Common errors Worship = the hour on Sunday Worship has nothing to do with the hour on Sunday Worship is about what gives me a good feeling
Worship vs meeting refer handout
Practical keys Aim – worship together – to go on worshipping Every facet of the service – help us engage with God Want people to know they have met with God as we have met with each other Reverence AND joy Moving yet not manipulative Informal and reverent at the same time
Practical keys Reminded of holiness at confession and grace and mercy at assurance Singing – to remind people of God’s work for us in Christ and cause their hearts to rejoice at God’s sheer love and grace Prayer time – should remind people of the big things we ought to be praying about and that we pray to a God who is able to do more than either we ask or imagine End – focus on God and for people to leave with joy in God’s goodness and a renewed determination to do all in the name of the Lord Jesus
Guidelines for leaders Count it a privilege Pray Dress Standing/sitting – instructions… you are not the MC Introducing songs and segments – short, less is more… planned but not read Pray or say something between songs – don’t leave us hanging Don’t welcome or pray until after 1st or 2nd song
