Time to get ready to apply to college Considerations

Grade Point Average Your grade point average is calculated and updated when you complete a class (Semester/End of Year). GPA is impacted by AP and Dual Enrollment classes. Weighted GPA determines Honor Graduates, Val/Sal; grades in AP and Dual Enrollment classes raise the value of a grade. Regular classes: 0-4 GPA scale (A=4.0), AP/DE classes: 0-5 scale (A=5.0) HOPE GPA is based on ALL of the ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language classes that you complete. Preliminary HOPE eligibility is determined at the end of the first semester of your Senior year. Final HOPE eligibility is determined at the end of your Senior year.

When should I be taking SAT or ACT? Generally speaking, Juniors are encouraged to wait until Spring of their Junior year The math that you will need to understand for the math portion of the test is taught August-February You certainly can take the test any time that you want, but I would rather you take the test when you are prepared with all the tools that you will need to do well on the test

Which test? SAT is, generally, a better measure for students whose strengths are Math and Science ACT is, generally, a better measure for students whose strengths are ELA and Social Science If you are unsure of which is best you could take both and see which is a better fit. Fees: SAT $47.50 ACT $46.00 Fee waivers are available for students who meet certain requirements, you are allowed 2 fee waivers (If you qualify, they apply to both tests)

Preparing for the SAT or ACT Set up your Khan Academy Account You will take some diagnostic tests that will determine your strengths and weaknesses Your tutoring will be tailored to your needs A schedule will be set up based on when you plan to take the test, AVOID CRAMMING!

Khan Academy Tutoring Although the tutoring is specifically targeting the SAT it could apply to the ACT in terms of the general knowledge that you will need for both tests.

Georgia Futures : This year as Juniors you will have to save 3 Post-Secondary institutions to your Georgia Futures account. Login to your account through your Infinite Campus to save the institutions you are interested in attending. I will be returning to your class at least one time to work in the computer lab to complete this task before the end of this school year.
