EUROPEAN STATISTICS ON THE INE WEBSITE ESDS SPAIN

Origins of the European Data project Our NSI publishes European Data in summary publications (Statistical yearbook, MBS, “Spain in figures”…). 2003 marked the beginning of the project for loading European Data on our NSI website. 2

Purpose of providing European Data To offer the user European statistical information both in Spanish and English. To provide data enabling comparisons between Spain and the rest of the countries of the EU. We also publish international data (source UN, WHO, WB…) with the same aims. 3

What tables do we choose? Uploading criteria We choose mainly those statistical operations with a Spanish equivalent. We do not publish short-term statistics (difficult to keep them uploaded). We pay special attention to checking that the Spanish data in European tables is coherent with the data that we publish as NSI. 4

Selecting the topic: what tables do we have on our website? 5

Selecting the topic: what tables are there at Eurostat? 6

Working on the table Once we have chosen the Eurostat table, we design it using the eJava advanced tool and download it. The table is put into Pc-Axis format and uploaded onto our website. 7

Working on the table We keep the table in English and translate it into Spanish. European data is uploaded in both languages. An Excel file with all the topics we offer on our web and the date of their most recent update is used to assist with these tasks. Currently we offer 44 European topics and 235 tables on our website. 8

How do we present the European data on our website? European data can be accessed via the subject menu in INEbase. Example: “Vital Statistics” data. 9

How do we present the European data on our website? Once we are in the subject menu in INEbase, if there is European data available, this is identified in the column “Scope” abbreviated as “EU”. To see the tables we have to click on the table heading. 12

How do we present the European data on our website? 14

How do we present the European data on our website? European information is accessed by clicking on the “European Data” link. Every section that incorporates European data includes a short paragraph explaining that the source is Eurostat and a link to the Eurostat subject. 15
