GCF (Greatest Common Factor) is the largest factor that can be divided into both the numerator & the denominator. A fraction is in SIMPLEST FORM when the GCF of the numerator and denominator is the number 1. Follow these steps: Step 1: Find the GCF of 8 and 12. Factors of 8 - 1, 2, 4, 8 Factors of 12 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 The GCF is 4 ----------- Step 2: Divide the numerator & denominator by the GCF. 8 ÷ 4 2 12 ÷ 4 3 The GCF of 2 & 3 is 1. = Put these steps in your journal.
Use the 2-step process & don’t forget to think!!! Find the GCF for each of these fractions and then express them in SIMPLEST FORM. Use the 2-step process & don’t forget to think!!! 12 16 30 18 15 32 40 45 Do this in your journal --->
STEP 1 Find the Greatest Common Factor. 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 15: 1, 3, 5, 15 16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 32: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 30: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 40: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, 40 18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 45: 1, 3, 5, 9, 15, 45 GCF: 3 STEP 1 GCF: 16 GCF: 10 GCF: 9 Place these in your journal. Go to step 2------------------->
