360 Degree Video 5-Minute Prep

Background & Lesson Objectives Our 5-minute prep will help you: define and apply 360º experiences to standards-aligned instruction. examine advantages of 360º video in the classroom. plan for 360º experiences in the classroom. 1

What is Virtual Reality? The following videos provides a full 360º video experience. Students are able to watch video in a traditional manner from a two dimensional perspective, but unlike passively watching, the video can now rotate to see up, down, front, back, and side-to-side from the original starting point. As the video moves, the experience changes according to the user’s requested perspective. 2

How is Virtual Reality different than Augmented Reality? Blends digital information into real-world spaces. Virtual reality Immersive, computer-simulated alternate world. 3

How can 360º Videos support my learning objectives? 360º Videos allow students to: experience different perspectives. explore new destinations, places, and people. observe, ask, and answer questions. cite examples based on evidence. engage in something that may be intimidating to do in real-life or is not easily accessible. participate in virtual tours. experience a sense of scale and proportion. control the viewing experience. be an active learner. sense movement. 4

What is the best way to experience 360º videos? Desktop Watch on any computer and in most modern browsers. Mobile Device Invite students to bring in their smart phones or tablets to view. Mobile + VR Viewing Device Pair a smart phone with a VR viewing device Cardboard goggles are an inexpensive alternative to more sophisticated VR viewing devices. 5

How can teachers plan instruction using 360º Videos in the classroom? The U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance® and Discovery Education have developed 360º video experiences that offer an exclusive behind the scenes pass to exciting state of the art locations that bring agricultural innovation to life and captivate students like never before.  6

How can teachers plan instruction using 360º Videos in the classroom? Each 360º experience includes a companion teacher guide that provides standards-aligned activities and capture sheets to meet student learning objectives. TEACHER GUIDE ACTIVITIES Information to help teachers prepare and immerse students in the 360º experience. Hands-on activities drive deeper student exploration as well as larger classroom discussions of key themes.  360 viewing experience 7
