10 Questions To Ask Your Child About Their Day At School… Notes from the Counselor October 2015  Quick Tip October is National Bullying Prevention Month 10 Questions To Ask Your Child About Their Day At School… Get a sense of your child's life at school by asking questions that elicit more than a one-word response. 1. Tell me about the best part of your day. 2. What was the hardest thing you had to do today? 3. Did any of your classmates do anything funny? 4. Tell me about what you read in class. 5. Who did you play with today? What did you play? 6. Do you think math [or any subject] is too easy or too hard? 7. What's the biggest difference between this year and last year? 8. What rules are different at school than our rules at home? Do you think they're fair? 9. Who did you sit with at lunch? 10. Can you show me something you learned (or did) today? Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated over time. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include: An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. RED RIBBON WEEK Oct. 26-30 Dress Up Days Red Ribbon week is Oct. 26-30. We will have the following dress up days to go along with our theme: Respect Yourself. Be Drug Free. Monday: Put a Cap on Drugs (wear a cap/hat) Tuesday: Give Drugs the Boot (wear boots) Wednesday: You Won’t See Me Doing Drugs (camo day) Thursday: Sock it to Drugs (crazy socks) Friday: Team Up Against Drugs (wear your favorite team shirt)
