What was your initial concept for your film package project and what were the reasons behind your choices?

Initial Concept Our initial concept was to have a successful edited film, we wanted our audience to connect with the opening sequence and to consider the film being interesting and fun. The reason we decided to choose Marni’s idea is because we all liked the logline and storyline. This led us to being put in the same group as we had similarities in taste of what loglines we liked. Naailah’s idea was popular too, her idea was the most similar to mine as we both had the same genre Horror. The reason by our choices is that we wanted our preproduction, production and post production to go well. We didn’t want to choose a complicated idea which would make it hard for us to create the opening sequence. The initial concept of our film is there is a psychiatrist who thinks her not so ‘dead’ husband is not to be found. One day she is told she expects a couple and is suddenly in shock of her ex husband who has company which is his new spiteful girlfriend. The concept was interesting and also we all like some films where it involves females as main characters. It gives a change and is unique, and different. The reason why we wanted to do a teenage pre adults film is because we knew it would be very enjoyable for the viewer. It includes comedy, drama and some sort of romance which the type of demographic audience tends to enjoy. It also is a different storyline compared to other dramas in the industry. The reason why we chose to film in a college office as it was easy access, however due to time management we had to change the office into the TV studio. We did this by adding a table, paper, and a couch which was already in the TV studio. It made the set more realistic. We made sure to ask the media department first for permission as the office wasn’t available. We could of used more lighting in the first scenes of the couple walking into the office as it was dark, however the scene was lit properly when the couple sat down. Which looked a bit off, next time we would make sure the lighting is the same throughout scenes.

Preproduction  In this unit we have been assigned to make an opening film sequence of our choice. As preproduction as usual we were assigned in groups to spilt tasks. Preproduction included call sheets, Location recce, Primary research and secondary research and more. Before this step we made our own loglines for our films. This helped us imagine how we would want our intended film to be about. It also made us gain skills in summarising our film in one or two sentences. This is what would actually happen in the real world as producers pitch their idea on the film, they also make an opening sequence so the judges have an idea of what the film will be about and would see if it is capable to attract their audience and to get the right response from audiences. As a class we discussed our ideas and loglines, we done a speed logline game where we had to talk to everyone in the class taking turns, at the end the whole class would of heard everyone’s loglines, we had to do it in one minute as it is more realistic. People realised they added to their logline and idea. My logline was “A bullied teenage boy moves into his new house to start fresh with his family in East London which he shockingly finds out he is not alone. He is with evil spirits who have been in the house for centuries. They try to scare him out and haunt him but little do his family know he is stronger than they think. “I wanted my film to include horror however my class mate Amarni had an idea which I was very interested in, so did another class mate Naailah. Naailah had a similar genre horror so I liked the idea very much, however Amarni had a drama styled film which I could imagine in my head. I enjoy horror and drama films mostly as they are very enjoyable and could have a good storyline. The script was easy to type up as a group as we knew what we wanted to do. We made sure to add stage directions so when it came to filming our actors knew what to say and what they would be doing whilst delivering dialogue. It was successful as it made the filming stage quick. However we went over time slightly due to actors not being available. In the final product it came out quite good for having a week to edit and evaluate.

Production/Filming In our production stage we done well in filming, however at times we missed out on filming as actors were not available to film, so we had to freestyle and video locations shot e.g. at Hackney Wick. We shot multiple shots in case we needed extra footage. We got natural sounds from the location so it sounds smooth and normal, this was successful as we didn’t end up wasting time. Filming done in college was challenging as we needed to make the office look realistic we tried our best not to film the entrance of the college as it would have been obvious to the audience that it is a college. The office scene was complicated as last minute Amarni couldn’t use the same office she has to improvise and use the TV studio, she used the couch and table to make it look more like an office. In improvement time management will be used as we could have had more time to film in the same office. Another location we used in our film is the graveyard it went well as we went quick and spent not too long. We didn’t want to disturb anyone as it is a place people visit. We made sure to get as much shots as we can, this worked for us in the editing stage as we included it in the film, it looks smooth as it cuts from shot to shot. We could of prepared different for filming as we should of got permission to go to the graveyard as we were not aware. We also should of blurred out information on the grave so the offence is taken by anyone who views the opening sequence. We wanted to film a scene in someone's house but we didn’t have as much time to film. It would of made the opening sequence more realistic as it would of illustrated their life at home. We also wanted to include more dialogue, however we was not as prepared we did not have our time management thought through. The scene could have been longer and could of included more props that we can see that it is a psychiatrist dealing with a couple.

Post production In the post production segment we divided our group into two. As we was a group of four. This made it easier to use more skills within our teams. Also it gave us more time to experiment and get familiar with the different techniques and skills used on premier pro. We starting of by selecting our best shots which were clear and had good angles. It was easy to cut and put in place as the tools were in a visible structure. We edited and was done on time. However we had some problems such as copyright problems. As we used a artists song Taylor Swift. Over all it was a good edit, we will make sure to email the artist twice and result in to using instrumentals or either contact the artist in case of copyright. The first opening sequence we exported came out blurry. To prevent this we had to export in a higher quality on premier pro and YouTube. Getting sound effects from the internet was quite easy as we would go on websites that provide sound effects. For example we used a ‘knock’ noise so it was enhanced in the scene where the couple are entering the office. It was also easy to cut and drag into the segment. We also took outdoor noises deliberately so our opening sequence of the psychiatrist making her way to her office is natural as possible.
