Time line notes Henry VIII was acknowledged as a talented musician and gifted composer although direct evidence is scarce. He is reputed to have composed the well known melody “Greensleeves” when wooing Anne Boleyn. Only John Dowland and Thomas Tallis were Henry’s contemporaries. John Dowland was an almost exact contemporary of William Shakespeare.
