Essay types

What type of essay is it?

PERSUASIVE or OPINION A persuasive essay is one in which you attempt to get the reader to agree with your point of view. You are trying to present arguments, research, and ideas in order to sway the reader one way or the other. An opinion essay is a formal piece of writing. It requires your opinion on a topic, which must be stated clearly, giving various viewpoints on the topic supported by reasons and/or examples. You should also include the opposing viewpoint in another paragraph.

Fact vs. opinion

Informative! The purpose of an informative essay is used to educate on a certain topic. It is not for giving an opinion or convincing someone to do something or change his beliefs. In addition to being informative, it needs to be interesting.

What type of essay is it? Describe the peanut butter What does it taste like? What does it look like? What does it feel like? What does it smell like?

Descriptive essay! SHOW, don’t tell! The descriptive essay is a genre of essay that asks the student to describe something—object, person, place, experience, emotion, situation, etc. This genre encourages the student's ability to create a written account of a particular experience. SHOW, don’t tell!
