Team Meetings Set the stage

examples Fish Philosophy Celebrate Achievements Trust and Respect Their Expertise Give “PEP” Talks to Inspire and Motivate – base on real examples and data Have Their Back Have fun together Everyone is a Performer – Choose Your Verb Marketing/Recruitment/Blogging Coaching Conversations with Students and Faculty Build Team Engagement – with larger team, smaller teams, and 1:1 – it is worth the investment Include games, activities, opportunities for everyone to get to know each other and not be isolated.

Approach to student issues – progress memos Honestly address the issues, “Come to Jesus Meeting” State your non-negotiables Convey concern, care and compassion Mean it - Follow-up on what you can do to help They must be invested - they articulate what they can do to improve Build on success – notice what they are doing right Give them clear guidelines and timelines for action (counseling, tutoring, work in success center) Show them what they need to do to be successful and create an action plan with steps to make it happen.

Programming Create programming designed to anticipate and meet student need Invest in support services Refuse to hire instructors who do not believe in supporting students Hold students and faculty accountable Utilize progress memos Wrap around care Enlist the TEAM

Approach to faculty coaching If you are tough, own it, explain why, tell your students not to let it intimidate them and encourage questions Be real – Be You!! Be honest about the strengths and weaknesses. Positive psychology doesn’t only focus on the good stuff. Allow your staff to be vulnerable, they must know being open and working to improve will leave them open to punishment Compliment, show appreciation, highlight their achievement, give them credit Be trustworthy Meet with them, get to know them, and listen to concerns Use of “Developing” instead of “Needs Improvement” on evaluation

Small Group Brainstorm Brainstorm a situation, incorporating a positive psychology strategy 1. Find a partner – someone you do not know well 2. Introduce yourself and discuss a staff, student, or team challenge you are currently struggling with and could use some new insight on on. 3. Brainstorm solutions together using at least one positive psychology strategy. 4. Report out your results and insights
