New Building for the Department of Chemistry Dear Guests! I am now going to give you a short overview of perhaps the most exciting topic in the current life of our department – the new chemistry building. February 2006
Real and Natural Sciences around Tartu Chemistry Biology Physics The Maarjamõisa Campus site University of Tartu is currently scattered around Tartu, no compact campus. This hinders collaboration. Also, many of the buildings are in a rather bad shape, among them the chemistry building. In the coming years it is planned to start developing the Maarjamõisa Campus, which would concentrate the real and natural sciences. Biomedicine Technology February 2006

The Chemistry building now ... The chemistry building has served us well for over half a century, but... difficulties with ventilation limited accessibility no large lecture rooms no elevator cannot be extended The building is not meeting the needs of contemporary teaching and research There has been very little from the government for keeping this current building in an acceptable shape. Almost all the renovation work that has been done has been accomplished with the funds of the faculty. February 2006

Overview of the Draft February 2006 The ground floor is mainly for teaching. There will be four large lecture rooms for 80-100 people. The large lecture room-block is suitable for organising conferences. February 2006
