Today’s Objective To be able to use a linear inequality in a real-life situation.

Example 1 In order to get a B or higher in this class, you must get a score higher than 79.4%. Write an inequality that describes getting a B or higher. S > 79.4

Example 2 Sue and Bob ran a 2 mile race. Bob finished ahead of Sue, and Sue’s time was 8 minutes. Write an inequality that describes Bob’s average speed for the race.

Example 2 Speed = distance time Bob’s avg. speed = B Sue’s distance = 2 Sue’s time = 8 B > 2/8 or 1/4 Bob’s speed was greater than 1/4 mile per min.
