Remember the Periodic Table of Elements? Let’s talk about more!

Element 8 is O, for Oxygen.

Oxygen is a gas—it’s in the air. We breathe it and we need it to live!

Element 6 is C, for Carbon.

Carbon can look like coal… and also diamonds!

Remember, an atom has protons, neutrons, and electrons.

A hydrogen atom is small— just one electron.

A helium atom has two electrons.

A carbon atom has 6 electrons.

An oxygen atom has 8 electrons.

Did you know you can put atoms together? Yep!

What happens if you put two hydrogen atoms together with one oxygen atom? + = ?

You get H2O. That means water!

Chemistry is about what happens when you put elements…

together!
