Presentation transcript:

Are You Connected ? Kumar C G, Tally LOGO I am from Tally. I have a confession. I am an electrical engineer. My knowledge of Finance and accounting is very very limited. So, I will be talking about what is the implication of improved connectivity on businesses. What does it mean and are we in position to take complete advantage of this technology evolution. So I will start with the question. Are You connected? Let’s see if really are connected.

Are we… WWF says we are connected. Of course, some of you in Delhi, may be more, well connected than the rest of us. Oh No. I was not referring to the wild life. Well…Huh… Also, Nowadays, certain connections could be bad for your health. You know 2G 3G etc. Enough digression, I will come back to connections. .,

Technology Evolution You are well connected Transportation Communication Media Internet There is speed and convenience The evolution of technology has ensured that we are well connected today.. As people, we are WELL connected Transport networks Ships, Road, Air and Rail ways. Communication networks Telephones Mobiles Mails both digital and snail Internet Mass communication media Television, radio… And it HAS brought speed and convenience to our lives. Today You are never out of reach. You family, friends and your company people can always reach you and you can reach them. The social networking sites keep you connected with everyone else. You know what is happening in their lives and they know yours.

Today Delays are no longer acceptable Businesses are well connected You no Longer Send quotes through courier or Speed Post Wait weeks for Cheques to realize Stand in queue to file returns So are businesses. They are well connected, Today You no longer send a Quote or Purchase order through courier or Speed post, which would take a day or more. Today you just email the PDF Quote or PO You no longer wait a week for the cheques to be realized. You no longer go to the Department and stand in a queue to file your returns. Delays are no longer acceptable Most things are digitized. Well, not everything. The materials, Raw, finished and Consumables are still Physical Delays are no longer acceptable

You Demand Speed You Need Velocity Velocity of commerce Today The way you do business transactions has changed. Duration for doing a business transaction has shrunk. It has become faster. There is speed today. There is velocity. There IS Velocity of commerce.

But. . . Is this velocity enough? What is it costing you? Customer PO = Your SO Customer Payment = Your receipt Supplier DC = Your GRN Government Filings Bank Transactions . . . . . What is it costing you? Are You Really Connected? BUT, sorry, I simply had to, bring my butt along with me from Bangalore. Majboori you see. But, IS THIS, the velocity that current technology can bring to your transactions? Every business in the Pyramid deals with another either directly or indirectly. The connectivity exists. But are the businesses really connected. Emphasis is on really.. Let’s look at the typical B2b Transactions. When your customer enters a Purchase order in his software does it become a Sale order in yours. When your supplier sends a DC, it should become a GRN after verification. Why should you reenter it. When he makes a payment to you, he enters it in his software, then enters these in the bank portal, on receipt of this information, you enter it in my software. Ridiculous isn’t it? That you should be wasting precious man power doing this. And the errors. After all to err is human. These errors and the consequent reconcilliaitons. What is it costing your business? In terms of speed and wasted effort and errors. Please forgive me for raising the question again. Are you really connected?

Are you really Connected? Employees Consultants Banks Government If you are really connected, your software would be talking to the software of your whole eco system. Your suppliers, customers, Banks and Government without you having to take additional efforts. Does the technology for doing this exist? Yes it does. Tata Teleservices distribution network works in an integrated fashion with the TTSL central application seamlessly. distributors today enter indents, claims, billing on their retailers. TTSL gets these and whenever TTSL dispatches Mobile phones, SIMs, it is updated in the distributors software with the 14 digit IMEI number. Imagine if 1000 phones were dispatched and some one had to sit and key in the IMEI numbers of 1000 phones. That is 14000 keystrokes saved and without any errors. The information transfer happens from software to software. Please think about the saving and the accuracy. There is no need to double check. Customers Suppliers

Point A to B If you want to go from Point A to B You need By Road In the shortest time You need A Good Road A Good Driver A Good Vehicle You are a Good driver, You have the Good Road… Do you have a Good Vehicle We at Tally have built one  If you want to go from point A to point B, , by road and lets say the points are 100 km apart, in the least amount of time, you need two things. A good road and a good vehicle. Of course I am assuming, you Are a good driver. If you are not, everything else is anyway irrelevant, Right? Today infrastructure for connectivity exists. The road exists. And and.. You are a good driver. But, Sorry again [for bringing my but in between]   But is your vehicle good? I believe we at Tally have built one..
