AS/NZS 4761.1 :2018 Australian/New Zealand Standard   Competencies for working with electrical equipment for hazardous areas (EEHA) Part 1: Competency Standards 1

AS/NZS 4761.1: 2018 — About this edition This edition of the Standard is a complete revision of the 2008 edition while maintaining the same purpose, that is: Specifying the competencies required for persons to work with electrical equipment and installations associated with explosive atmospheres. That competencies cover only the explosion-protection aspects for designated work activities in the following functions; Producing, processing or servicing functions in a hazardous area. Installing and maintaining explosion-protected equipment and systems in hazardous areas Overhauling, repairing and modifying explosion-protected equipment. Developing/designing and maintaining explosion-protection strategies. 2

AS/NZS 4761.1: 2018 — Revision process Revised in consultation with: Members of other AS/NZS hazardous area and mining committees. Industry experts with experience in the use of the previous editions. Other influencing factors : Australian/New Zealand adoption of the IEC series of standards for explosive atmospheres. Interest from other countries for access to competencies for hazardous areas. 3

AS/NZS 4761.1: 2018 —Main features of this edition Updated competency units that reflect the current needs of industry. Information arranged for easier access by the users. Clarification of precondition for assessment. Competency and assessment requirements and evidence of competency for each unit are contained under a single main clause. Each competency unit includes cross references between competency criteria and evidence. Required evidence focuses on that expected of a competent person and not on the learning process. 4

AS/NZS 4761.1:2018 — Application The Standard is intended for use by: Bodies certifying competency of persons; Bodies certifying overhaul and repair workshops; Enterprises establishing the required competencies of personnel; Organizations developing competency and assessment standards for a given jurisdiction; Organizations developing assessment resources; Organizations developing resources, training and/or training programs; Individuals seeking to determine their own level on competence. 5
