Explain the challenges you may face when gathering reliable data on your two selected factors. Up to 3 marks available. Reasons may include:  reliability  validity  practicability  appropriateness of method  organisational issues Portfolio unit 2 (a)

Task 1 Look over your gathering data booklet Select one method you have used to collect data on a physical factor Describe the challenges you faced when gathering data using this method Now do the same for another factor (emotional or mental) Was there anything that proved a problem? Remember….was it valid, reliable, practical, appropriate? Task 1

Challenges? Was it reliable? When your peers videoed you did anything go wrong? Were you able to see the full picture? Did they miss anything out? Was it appropriate? Was it suitable or proper for the circumstance? Was it a valid method Is it an official; truthful; does the method appears (at face value) to measure what it claims to? Were there any organisational issues? (lack of court space/room to video) Was it practical? Was it easy to set up/operate, fill out etc

Challenges? Skills Checklist Was it reliable? Did your partner fill it out properly? Did they miss anything out? Did they understand it? Was it appropriate? Was it suitable or proper for the circumstance? Was it a valid method Is it an official, truthful, does the method appears (at face value) to measure what it claims to? Were there any organisational issues? Was it practical? Was it easy to carry/fill out what equipment did you need?

Challenges? Scatter graph Was it reliable? Did your partner fill it out properly? Did they miss anything out? Did they understand it? Was it appropriate? Was it suitable or proper for the circumstance? Was it a valid method Is it an official, truthful, does the method appears (at face value) to measure what it claims to? Were there any organisational issues? (court space/area to fill out) Was it practical? Was it easy to carry/fill out, what equipment did you need?

Challenges? Questionnaire Was it reliable? Did you or your partner fill it out properly? Was it truthful? Did you understand the questions? Was it appropriate? Was it suitable or proper for the circumstance? Was it a valid method Is it an official, does the method appears (at face value) to measure what it claims to? Were there any organisational issues? (court space/area to fill out) Was it practical? Was it easy to carry/fill out, what equipment did you need?

2b i) Identify one appropriate method you used to gather data on your performance in factor 1(physical)skills checklist, scatter diagram, video 2b ii)Identify one appropriate method you used to gather data on your performance in factor 2 (any other factor) questionnaire, self-evaluation test, SCAT/POMS test, feedback sheets) This must be answered for the activity of badminton. 1 mark for each method Portfolio unit 2

How did you gather data? Question 2C what did you do? I played a full court/half court/full pitch/7-a-side game I played a game to 21 pts/11pts/10min game etc I played someone/team of similar ability I used my skills checklist/scatter graph to record my game The person who was observing my performance marked my different shots with a tick or cross. The person marked on a picture of a court/pitch where I moved on the pitch/where I moved my opponent and where I scored the point I answered a set of questions on anxiety after performing my routine. The person who was observing me put a tally mark under the heading every time I lost my temper/did something right/wrong/completed a skill/movement Select one of the methods identified in 2b. Describe how you used this method to gather data about this factor. 4 marks available How did you gather data?

2D What’s good about this method? Results were taken down in a match situation, giving a true reflection of a game performance under pressure. Helps identify strengths and weaknesses Data was easy to read and interpret as the ticks gave a picture of my strengths and weaknesses and what shots I was using/avoiding in a game Using written evidence gives us data we can use in the future to compare to see if improvements can be made. It is simple to complete as it can be carried out quickly and easily It can be compared to national averages to see how my fitness compares to the rest of the nation at my age level, giving me an accurate measurement of my fitness level. It was reliable as I used the pause, rewind function to ensure I didn’t miss any data. It was reliable as it got completed in real time as it happened by an experienced player who knew how to fill it in. It was valid as it was specific to my performance needs and ability level It provided statistical information that we can use to evaluate my overall performance Explain why you selected this method to gather data on your performance in the identified factor. (3marks available) Question 2D
