People and communities ELG - Home learning poster This poster can be used to support the development of people and communities at home, a great resource for parents. www.earlybirdyeducation.com

People and communities Allow your child to become involved in family traditions and celebrations e.g. going to church, decorating cakes, writing cards, decorations, and cooking. Encourage children to recognise different people in the environment who help us. When out allow the children with your supervision to buy things at the local supermarket, check out a book in the library, ask for a train ticket at the station. These will enable your child to have real experiences and see their local environment first hand. Create scrapbooks of your child’s half term holidays, day trips, outings and family holidays. Encourage them to collect photos, leaflets, and things that may be special to them. This will give your child a sense of pride of their own family traditions. People and communities Children talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members. They know that other children don’t always enjoy the same things and are sensitive to this. They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities ad traditions. Visit other cultural events, landmarks or celebrations e.g. china town, church, local castle, cathedral, mosque or temple. Allow your child to see different types of special buildings, celebrations and traditions. www.earlybirdyeducation.com
