The Scientific Method
The Scientifc Method Song (To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star) Ask a question, make a guess That’s called a hypothesis. Plan a fair test; Do the steps Look and see just what you get. Make a conclusion and repeat Being a scientist is really neat!
Step 1: Identify the Problem http://glencoe.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/dl/free/0078600472/164155/00044686.html
Step 2: Research the Problem
Step 3: Make a Hypothesis A hypothesis is an educated guess about the solution to the problem.
Step 4: Test the Hypothesis Experiment – organized process used to test a hypothesis
Variables – factor that changes in an experiment Independent Dependent The ONE factor or condition that is intentionally changed by the experimenter. The factor or condition that may be affected as the result of changing the independent variable.
Constant Variable/Control http://www.science4us.com/elementary-life-science/living-things/plants/ Constant Variable/Control Used to show that the result of an experiment is really due to the condition being tested
Step 5: Observe and record http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/scientific-inquiry/collect-data.htm Step 5: Observe and record Data – observations and measurements recorded during an experiment
Step 6: Arrive at a conclusion http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/science/scientific-inquiry/scientific-methods.htm Step 6: Arrive at a conclusion Conclusion – a judgment based on the results of an experiment Theory – a logical explanation for events that occur in nature
