Universitas Advent Indonesia Hand-wrist Watch or Lanyard-watch for Nursing Care in The Hospital: Professional Nurses Choice Universitas Advent Indonesia Fakultas Ilmu Keperawatan Program Studi Diploma Keperawatan 2016-2017 Samuel M. Simanjuntak, Palupi Triwahyuni

Background Adequate studies show the controversies taken place in hospitals in Indonesia and around the globe which lead to the major issues like infection control, nursing care efficiency, public confidence and professionalism.

Purpose: To find relevant guidelines to choose appropriate watch for student nurses and professional nurses to wear during clinical practice and the evidence which underpins them.

Methods: This study employed a descriptive correlation design. The population is professional nurses who have been working more than a year in Rumah Sakit Advent Bandung, Indonesia, which selected with a convenient sampling design.

Methods: The instrument is a questionnaire adapted from “3 Questions To Ask When Choosing A Watch” developed by Naiise team that based in Singapore. Univariate and bivariate analysis are performed with 0.05 level of significant.

Result

Results: More than half of the professional nurses involved (51.8%) choose to wear hand-wrist watch with consideration: Easier to use during performing vital signs assessment and Still can maintain eye contact interaction that out powered the nosocomial infection prevention concern.

Results: Majority of staff nurses (88%) chose the hand-wrist watch as compare to 13% of the head nurses. The critical wards nurses (64.7%) choose hand wrist watch as compare to clinical nurses (50%) and out-patient nurses (52%). This study indicates a significant relationship between the wards where the nurses work and their choice of watch with p value<0.05.

Results:

Conclusion: Nursing care efficiency is become a priority for professional nurses in Rumah Sakit Advent Bandung, Indonesia in choosing between the hand-wrist watch or lanyard-watch.
