Agenda October 13 Zinn Chapter 4 Intro to Essay 2

Zinn Chapter 4 Discussion Why does Zinn title this chapter Tyranny is Tyranny? What meaning does he hope the reader will get from this? What is Zinn’s thesis in this chapter? Chapter 4 reads more like a textbook that any of the other chapters so far, how does this effect the message of the chapter? Does his argument in this chapter hold weight? Why or why not? What are the strengths and weaknesses of Zinn’s critique of the Declaration of Independence and the Second Treatise on Government? Why does Zinn choose to present this argument? What is his purpose in critiquing this part of American history? Can people have equal rights if there are stark differences in wealth?

Time Period: American Revolution: 1775-1800 What to do: Analyze: Definition: to separate into the constituent parts, for the purpose of an examination of each separately Content: Was the American Revolution (not the war) a radical alteration in American political ideas and institutions. If so how far did it go? What are the American political ideas and institutions from 1775 and if they are changed how are they changed as we go through time to the 1800’s. If they are not changed show how they stay the same through time to the 1800’s. Keep in mind how you want to divide the paragraphs:.
