Determine which form of weathering is taking place Around the room there are 10 stations. At each station there is a caption and a picture. Determine which form of weathering is taking place Physical (mechanical) or Chemical Once you determined the form of weathering, describe or name the specific type of weathering that is taking place. For example; Station One show Mechanical Weathering called Frost Wedging
Water is continually freezing and thawing Station One Water is continually freezing and thawing
Water metal and air have combined to create rust Station Two Water metal and air have combined to create rust
Station Three Tree roots grow deep underground and push up pieces of cement. This cement also cracks and breaks.
Station Four Pine needles are damages; calcium is depleted form the soil. It will take years before the soil returns to a normal pH.
Station Five Layers of Igneous rock are broken off the surface.
Station Six Carbonic acids are created when CO2 mixes with water. This acid dissolves calcite and dolomite.
Station Seven Animals burrow into the ground and break particles of rock off of larger rocks
Rock colliding with one another breaks of smaller pieces of rock. Station Eight Rock colliding with one another breaks of smaller pieces of rock.
Station Nine Rushing water flows over the rocks in this stream. Rocks are broken by other rocks in the stream and are also dissolved by weak acids in the water. Explain how both physical and chemical weathering are taking place.
Station Ten This marble statue has been outside for many years. The features of this statue have been damaged over time.
