PEARL HARBOR December 7, 1941

USS Arizona

United States Point of view Pearl Harbor was an unprovoked and surprise attack upon American soil The United States must declare war on Japan to defend itself. December 8th – The United States will declare war on Japan December 11th – The United States will declare war on Germany

Japan’s Point of view Japan argues they were provoked into attacking the United States at Pearl Harbor. United States refused negotiations They admitted they would lose a war against the US, but had to act

Japan argued Asia should be for Asians

Oil Japan argued that the United States controlled the world’s oil supply in Asia and refused to share any with Japan, but would share with others. Japan said they had to attack to remove the US from Asia so they could receive oil

No war with the United States Japan argued they only wanted to remove the United States from Asia and the Pacific Ocean
