Figure 1 Different LARPs and fitness consequences during aging. (A) Most proteins cycle between synthesis and degradation during each cell division. About 135 proteins in budding yeast were found to be long lived and asymmetrically segregated toward the mother cell in budding yeast. They exist in three different categories: i) fragments of proteins; full-length protein partitioned into ii) aggregates or iii) plasma membrane microdomains. (B) Pma1 accumulates in the mother cell during aging but is largely absent from nascent daughter cells. The accumulated Pma1 antagonizes V-ATPase-mediated vacuole acidification in the mother cell by reducing cytosolic protons.
