College
College What are your biggest questions? What are you excited for? What are you nervous about?
College This is an exciting time for you, but it’s also extremely transitional You are going to have to learn a whole new culture, but Metro has given you the tools to navigate that culture Let’s talk about applications
Applications How many of you are applying for college? How many of you are applying for jobs? Either way, you will have to write some sort of personal statement
Personal Statement A personal statement is exactly what it sounds like— it is a way for you to showcase who you are, your personal achievements, and most importantly, how you would like to grow No one wants to hear how perfect you are— they want to hear how you will improve with their program At the same time, you do need to talk yourself up
Personal Statement Take time to sit with only yourself when you are answering your personal statement questions You need to be honest with yourself— where do you truly wish to grow? Where do you feel you have flourished? Find a quiet space— relax— don’t let this completely stress you out
Personal Statement It’s going to feel weird to brag about yourself, but it’s okay to do it in this context! Tell me something about yourself that you are really proud of.
Questions Start working on the questions I’ve handed out— answer them on separate paper, but feel free to make notes on the original Listen to music, block your peers out Be honest! By Wednesday, I want every single question answered
