Engage Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is the forty days (excluding Sundays) which come between Ash Wednesday and Easter, traditionally a time of fasting, prayer and almsgiving (giving money). In Lent many people make sacrifices to focus on the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

Engage Some discussion ideas … Sometimes we have to give something (sacrifice) to help others – what sorts of things would you give? Jesus was tempted to make himself powerful – what could be the traps you could fall into if you had power? Activity suggestion … Make a Lent calendar and write on acts of kindness that you can do on each day.
